This presentation is an introduction to the risk adjustment methodology CMS uses to determine the severity of illness of the patients we care for and to estimate the cost to care for them. Accurate coding is essential to determine appropriate risk-adjusted severity of illness. It is anticipated that CMS will be more transparent with quality and efficiency data in the future making it essential for providers to understand how their ICD-10 coding is used to determine severity of illness.
