Agreement reached with Blue Cross; CHI Health is back in-network effective July 15
UniNet, CHI Health, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSN) ended a 15-month long contract dispute on June 25 that left thousands of patients disconnected from their CHI Health Alegent Creighton Clinic providers and CHI Health facilities.
The new agreement, which covers most BCBSN plans*, went into effect on July 15, 2015. While it’s not a value-based contract, we believe it sets the framework for future discussions with BCBSN about value-based agreements, which makes great care more affordable. Terms of the contract remain confidential. In order to bring some sense of stability to marketplace, both sides agreed to share that this is a two-year contract.
We whole-heartedly believe this agreement is the right thing to do for our patients, families and communities that were disrupted by BCBSN’s decision last year to terminate our contract. We remain committed to building the region’s best value-based network and will continue to work with any payor who shares that vision.
The impact of this agreement will be one of relief in the near term for Nebraska families. In the long term we remain firmly committed to making great care more affordable and securing contracts that reward providers for keeping patients healthy and out of the hospital.
